The three I see Dallas having a chance of getting is DeCastro, Barron, Poe. However I think I would take Upshaw over Poe if he was there.
I am torn between DeCastro and Barron. We need a good safey and haven't had one since Darren Woodson, but DeCastro would be a good player for years to come.
Courtney Upshaw, OLB
David DeCastro, OG,
Dontari Poe, DT,
Dre Kirkpatrick, CB,
Fletcher Cox, DE,
Mark Barron, S,

I really want defense at #14 but I don't like all of the players. Cox is the best scenario IMO but I think he'll be gone in the top 10.
To me, Poe has way too much bust potential for me to take.
DeCastro is great but with our FA signings I don't think he'll be the pick either. Unless we plan on playing him at center, I think we wasted some of our FA $ on Bernadeau and Livings. I actually am worried about Livings a little. I think we should have taken the money we paid those two and got a better OG instead of two average ones. Then you could have paired that with DeCastro and had a dominant O-line.
I don't trust Kirkpatrick. I don't know why. I'm just underwhelmed by some of these SEC DB's. There's been some good ones but when you play on a team with so much defensive talent I feel like it makes you look better than you are.
I have some of the same reservations about Barron. I think he's a better player at his position though than Kirkpatrick. I'm wary of guys like Barron who are the best at their position in a draft that's extremely weak at that position. It's like it's Barron and that's really it. I also don't want a strong safety. I want a guy who can play in coverage. Barron didn't have much in the way of coverage responsibility. I don't want any Roy Williams. A lot of the press you hear about Barron was the same stuff said about Roy. Then the league figured him out, legislated against his style of play, and he lost his fire for the game. Scary.
Kam I agree that the 14ths spot is not the best place to be, but I guess it is better than 15.
It would not surprise me to see the Cowboys trade up to the #4 spot and pick up Morris Claiborne. I just don't know how good a move that would be. At first glance I think it may be a good move, you need to have good cover corners to give the line enough time to get to the QB.
Okay, what would it take to move to #4? I think our first round of course, Felix Jones, Jenkins and maybe a 3rd.
What would you think of that?
If that doesn't happen then I think the Eagles will trade up and grab Barron. Evidently I like him a lot more than you do, but we have struggled so long at safety I would be willing to take a shot and hope it isn't a Roy Williams, like you I am still afraid that could happen again, but we have to do something.
If DeCastro is there at 14 I think Dallas will take him over anyone unless someone like Cox suddenly drops and I don't think that will happen. The only other player I see them taking would be Poe, but I believe that is more hype than conviction on the Cowboys part.
While this draft has some interesting possibilities it is what everyone is calling a weak draft, I think that maybe true but there are some good players to be had. The thing that keeps me positive whatever happens, is Jason is making the picks and I think he knows players the last couple of drafts have been good ones and I think he has been the reason.
I forgot to mention that I just don't see Dallas trading down. The only way it could happen would be if no one was there, but I believe they now believe in the best player on the board.
At least I hope so.
Here is a thought - How about making a package that would include Spencer and keep our draft picks? If we did that then Cox would be the choice.
Since Spencer is having trouble deciding to sign or not sign we would just help him out.
I want a certain player in this draft but I'm not willing to move up for him. Even Claiborn. Moving up to #4 would probably take a 1st round pick next year. Even if it's just a 2nd I'm not doing it. This team needs way too many players and we're not going to fill enough of them as it is even if we hit on all of our picks. Just let the draft come to us and there will be a good player there. Even if I don't like the player as well as others.
